Panagiotis Kontos, vice-president of SPEΛ, who is also this time present at Agrotica with its 74 members, focused on the major changes that the agri-food sector is experiencing. “Based on European policies, climate change, the new CAP and the energy crisis, the fertiliser sector is under strong pressure. But we are here with proposals, solutions and innovative products to support the Greek farmer and contribute to the development of agricultural production in terms of quality and quantity,” he said.
However, he did not hide his concern about the fact that consumption in our country has been declining in recent years. “In 2022 there was a 20% decrease compared to 2021, falling, in volume, from 1 million tonnes to 800,000 tonnes, while for last year we do not yet have accurate data, but the feeling is that the market has fallen even a little,” Kontos said, adding that “we are seeing low yields and degraded production, with a visible risk of reducing soil fertility.”
